Getting it Right in Camera - Jim Brompton

The event will be held on April 7, 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Jim will speak about using filters on the front of lenses which significantly enhances light balance and composition by allowing photographers to manipulate how light interacts with the image.

By controlling light, filters encourage deliberate compositions, as they force the photographer to slow down and think critically about the scene. This intentionality often results in more thoughtfully composed images with better depth and detail.

Jim will also talk how filters also preserve the integrity of highlights and shadows, ensuring that no part of the image is lost to over- or underexposure. Additionally, they allow for creative effects, or dramatic, surreal long-exposure shots. Using filters often produces a more polished and professional image straight out of the camera, reducing the need for post-processing adjustments.

Ultimately, filters are indispensable tools that give photographers greater control, leading to images that are not only technically sound but also artistically compelling.
