Welcome Back and Interpretive Scavenger Hunt

The event was held on September 3, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Welcome Back!!  After some announcements, The first of our "Show Us What You Are Doing" presentations (see announcement below) and a brief overview of the exciting program year ahead, we will launch the season with Member Sharing.  This year, to focus that sharing, we invite you ALL to participate in an INTERPRETIVE SCAVENGER HUNT.

We provide the thoughts / topics and you provide the interpretation. There are no right or wrong answers; you interpret the topics in your own creative way.

Here are 10 topics / statements for you to search for.   Pick 5 from the list below and shoot away. You have until August 31 to submit 1 image for each of up-to 5 themes to the Welcome Back - Interpretive Scavenger Hunt faux competition on the website.   Please title your image files starting with the number of the topic of the.  For example, 01-flyingpigs.jpg

Here are the topics you can choose from:

  1.  It’s a small world
  2.  We all scream for ice cream
  3.  Dog days of summer
  4.  Staying cool
  5.  Kind of blurry
  6.  The sound of music
  7.  Only the shadow knows
  8.  Nothing but motion
  9. The games of summer
  10. It’s a reflection

You will need to submit your images to Member Sharing – Images of Summer, on the website by September 2 by 11:30 PM. And, We are hoping you will come prepared to say a few words about your images and share what you were thinking about and/or hoping to achieve when you were making each image.

Note:   We are continuing to use the work-around we created last year for collecting images to project at our meetings.  Instead of uploading the images to a gallery, we will be uploading the images to a “faux competition” that you will find under the 02 – MEMBER SHARING AND WORKSHOPS group that you will find under the THEMES AND COMPETITIONS tab on the home page. Despite the label, this is not a competition.  There will be no judging or voting.  In order to collect the images for sharing at our meetings, and to get them into the hands of our Projectionist, we need to be able to Export them from the website.  Currently, this is our best mechanism.

NEW MEETING FEATURE:  "Show us What you are Doing"

Following a suggestion made at the AGM, we are tweaking the structure of our meetings to provide a regular venue for members to provide an opportunity to "Show us What you are Doing" with your photography.  The first four minutes of each meeting will be a time slot for a member to give a short talk, usually accompanied with photos (or maybe a slideshow), about a particular aspect of their photography; the subject is entirely up to you.  If you are interested in participating at the speaker at the first few meetings, send Peter Eisenbock - peisenbock@gmail.com   (Programs) and Nancy Matheson - nancymatheson@telus.net  (Vice-President) an email indicating what you would talk about and a preference for either the September 3, 17, October 1 Meeting. There will be a sign-up sheet talks at future meetings. Glenn sent out an email on Aug 1 with details.  But, you can find a copy of that document on the website.
