What is the "Equipment Fund"?

We're a small club, so we we don't have a lot of equipment needs. One of the things we do use a lot at our meetings are projectors. The club owns its own slide projectors, projection stands, and has easels (for displaying prints when reviewing prints for competition or critiquing).

But with so many people shooting digital now, and with almost every presentation seeming to need PowerPoint slides, we also use digital projectors. At this time we get by on the good graces of members who have these projectors or can borrow them from their places of employment. This past year the club executive decided it was time the club acquired its own projector. There are three traditional ways to achieve this: donation by a member or third party, raising club dues, or raising funds via member donations.

Raising dues was not desirable. We want membership in the club to be something everyone can afford and so our dues are priced to just barely cover the club's normal operating costs.

So the decision was to put out a "donation can" during break time. Members can contribute whatever they feel they can afford -- usually the loose change in their pockets that they won't miss. And it is amazing how fast loose change can add up. The "Equipment Fund" thermometer seen here and on the home page will allow interested parties to keep an eye on our progress.

Our goal is around $1000, the price of a decent, modest projector suited to our needs.

We do not ask for donations from our guests. If they are feeling generous and want to contribute they have our heartfelt thanks. Third party philanthropists who would like to contribute can contact Tatiana, our treasurer, via email at treasurer@nwphoto.org
